Backlash: How Others View Us

I touched on this in the past, but the more I think about it, the more I feel the need to expend a long-simmering rant.

I have got a real problem with forum mods entering into a thread just to moderate something that does not need to be moderated. Ctabuk did just that today. The thread was going along fine and he had not one post in the thread. He then enters into the thread to tell me that I am dropping links and tells me to stop making multiple post.

First off, I did not post one link, so how in the hell was I link dropping. Maybe he is calling multi posting link dropping, does not make sense to me because there were no links.

Why was I multi posting.

The forum will not send me notice when someone makes a new post. When I check a thread, I have been posting in, I start at the beginning and if someone says something I want to respond to, I quote them, say what I want to say and continue reading the thread. I do not see any problem with this and have no idea why a half ass wanabe seems to be having so much trouble with it.

WPW is more than welcome to ban me from their forum if this is such a terrible and horrible thing. But I would like to leave them some food for thought. This is from an x moderator at WPW who is very well known and admired throughout the SEO community. He was the SEO expert at WPW and became a good friend after I had left WPW. This is what he posted on another. From Fathom.

I seen Janeth post an “unbelievable amount” at WebProWorld (early on).

Initially alot of Meta Tag stuff (in SEO) and reviews. I suggested numerous times to Brittany to “mod her” not because of her post count, writing skills, thought provoking or informative style but because “people responded”.

WebProWorld had a big problem early on… tons of registered members with zero to 1 post - never to return, and the rate was about 0.8% posts per member (including all admins & mods) - not good.

A good mod isn’t about knowledge, skills, or experience — it’s about “spawning posts”. That “is” precisely what she did, and she is (if you look) the single most successful mod at WPW for spawning posts and will be for a very long time to come.

Unfortuately - few at WebProWorld (admin) appreciate the metrix of a forum community and over the year as her knowledge, skills, and experience expanded the response expanded with it.

While I appreciate that Janeth had considered resigning and was in the process of informing in that decision, Brittany had concluded it was far better for the forum to ask Janeth to resign due to ongoing conflicts with other members.

Professionally, I would have “ban” the offending parties and kept my greatest asset - at any cost.

5 minutes after reading Brittany’s explanation of her decision for Janeth’s resignation (making Janeth’s decision to leave voluntarily - a moot point) I submitted mine.

Since then I have been asked “why” and that others (mods) had responded in the same manner - and subsequently hoaxed to stay…

That’s why… they (WPW admin) don’t understand and likely never will.

As I read through everything fathom had to say I have to wonder if I might be better off spending my time on another forum. Maybe he is correct and the administration at WPW does not care about the forum.

    Hi Janeth :)

I’ll not add any of my links as that is simply not the reason for my post.

I have a great deal of respest for Fathom. Rod worked with me, we’ve had several conversations in the past about many subjects, admittedly SEO related.

I do agree with him on most of what he wrote then, and I see and personally believe now.

Good moderators moderate when it comes to that aspect. Sometimes, I think it’s a blessing not to be the most knowledgeable or experienced when trying to provide that service (moderating) on a particular subject or topic. I have a moderator on my forum that fits this description.

You have, for the time that I’ve known you, made posts that attracted interest and participation, and still do. But more importantly to me, attract in the right way. Not by being contraversial and trying to “incite” participation but to actually attract it.

Unfortunately, sometimes people “attack” the person and not the idea or opinion being presented. “Attacking” an idea or opinion alone. I won’t claim to be “not guilty” but do try and remember this and get better at doing it. Sometimes age has its benefits. :)

For me personally, I hope you’ll continue to contribute to WPW. As a WPW moderator I hope you’ll continue to contribute.

    Dave

I’ve got no problem with people attacking me but when it comes to moderators who sweep in make a little attack and leave I have to wonder how WPW sees that as a benefit.

I’d think he was doing more harm than good and to add to it the guy is an idiot. I’ve never seen him make one useful post. He attacked Phil Craven and disrupted more threads with the same stupid stuff. Then invited him to his forum, banned him and attacked him when he left, then went around and bragged on other forums about how he had banned Phil C and had the nerve to show up at WWS and beg him to return.

Weird I just signed up an Twitter account for SEO Company and who was at the top of the public twitter but you Janeth. The world is so so small eh.

Are you still battling it out on the forums. I gave that up a long time ago. To much forum rage for me. Seems most of the people on the 20 forums http://www.seocompany.ca/seo/top-seo-forums-blogs.html I posted on were there to win arguments and didn’t care where their position was right or not.

I still play around on the forums a little here and there but nothing like I use to. The forum owners and members just seem like they don’t much care for me. :)

    Hi Janeth.

I wouldn’t let “whether they seem to care for you” worry you.

I have always enjoyed your posts, and to me “real world intelligence” is often defined by the ability to say something clearly, using fewer words, rather than constantly resorting to the mumbo-jumbo nonsense of academia and philosophy to try to confuse the opposition and score points over every little technical discussion.

@ SEO Company, couldnt help noticing youre banned from SEOChat? have you been trolling in there :)
